Watch: The Watch Shop’s CEO talks about the importance of empowerment and taking on Amazon

When we spoke to Robin Phillips, CEO, The Watch Shop at our Retail Hive Innovation meeting he explained how he’s fearful many retailers today won’t survive, saying “my view is a lot of retail businesses won’t make it, and it’s not because they don’t know about the innovations they need to introduce, it’s just that the people in the roles in the current structure aren’t empowered to take them on.” So for Robin establishing a culture that’s conducive to innovation goes hand in hand with retail success. “It’s one of the reasons that I’ve taken a role where I’m the CEO” Robin says “so I set the culture and it’s up to me to make the organisational innovation happen.”
